Ain’t no lie, Camila Cabello goes bye-bye-bye in hilarious video for Liar

Excuse us for a minute as we get our breath back as we stop ROFLMAOing at the new Camila Cabello video (no, we aren’t talking about the ‘fish kissing’ video featuring her and Shawn Mendes) for Liar.
Directed by Dave Meyers, the hilarious video sees Cam in a Groundhog Day kinda setup where she lives the same situation through outrageous, improbably Final Destination-like deaths.
Much like Havana, the video goes through three acts: the prologue, the main act and the epilogue. She even plays the ‘I’m a simple girl with simple wants’ card to the hilt.
Except, in the Liar video, Cam is on the verge of being married to a handsome billionaire type who sounds like he’s looking for a trophy wife.
The prologue sees her wondering if she should accept his proposal and life the high life or leave it all for an ordinary busboy who slips her a handwritten note.
The main act sees her going through the motions as she breezes through a run of elephant drops and bicycle pile-ups and whatnot as she gets wrecked (literally) every single time as a consequence of her actions.
The epilogue sees her finally getting an out and taking it and going for it.
Through it all, there’s a three-way ‘sutradhar’ of sorts (the only way it happens these days, via a morning talk show called ‘Tea Time’ that’s all about the ‘tea’, if you catch the drift) tying it all together.
Liar is the follow-up to Shameless in what is known as ‘Installment One’ of her sophomore album, Romance.
And if you find that portions of Liar sound familiar to Ace of Base’s All That She Wants and Lionel Richie’s All Night Long (All Night), it’s because it interpolates those tracks and both get songwriting credits.
Liar is about “a person I didn’t wanna have feelings for and I just didn’t wanna face my feelings”, Camila told Billboard.
If you think she’s making fun of herself in the video, it’s because that’s just how she rolls.
