Badshah’s debut film to have re-creation of Punjabi pop hit, Koka
Sonakshi Sinha & Badshah

Earlier this year, news broke of Badshah debuting as an actor opposite Sonakshi Sinha in a slice-of-life film. We can now confirm that he will feature in the re-creation of a popular Punjabi song from the 00s.

The song in question is a folksy hit called Koka (2003) by Jasbir Jassi, which will be re-created by (who else?) Tanishk Bagchi. From what we hear, Jasbir’s voice will be retained with rap portions rendered by Badshah.

The as-yet untitled film is being directed by debutant director Shilpi Das Gupta and will also feature Varun Sharma, Nadira Babbar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Shooting went underway in February.

According to reports, Badshah plays a singer in the film opposite Sonakshi, who is a close friend to the rapper.. The film is being produced by Mrighdeep Lamba, Bhushan Kumar and Mahaveer Jain.

Says Badshah, “Tanishk has done a great job with urbanising the folk sound and it’s definitely going to be the new jam this wedding season,” he promised.

Producer Bhushan Kumar adds, “The backdrop is Punjabi and the characters are happy-go-lucky people. They celebrate their happiness in full-on masti and in keeping with the flavour and characters, Koka was the apt song to take forward.”
