Open Letter To The Weeknd: She’s Not Gonna Call Out Your Name, Abel!
So what if a bad breakup leads to great music? Get a hold on yourself, man!

Taylor Swift mines her breakups for new material and while they work, she’s greatly criticised for it. On the other hand, The Weeknd’s (real name: Abel Tesfaye) fans, who have lapped up his latest EP, have Tay’s bestie (Selena Gomez) to thank for My Dear Melancholy,.

The lead single Call Out My Name resonates with many, driving the single up the charts globally. So when you see this video for the track, it’s a bit… unexpected.

Here’s what we want to say to you, Abel….

We expected a blood-red video, dejected cries and flames (in so many of your videos). But you’ve dialled down the chaos. The pain is still there, but red’s out of your palette now. Blue’s the color of a broken heart, the way we see it now.

We get the loneliness bit, but since when does heartbreak have freaky animals and vomit-spewing bats?

We kind-of get the dark, brooding, dreary background and the ‘Earned It’ vibe. Yes, but we hope that ‘Scream’-reminiscent all-white spaceship is symbolic of moving in.

But the words betray you. You don’t want to give up on her, you want her to call out your name. And at this point, you seem more Man Of The Woods than Justin Timberlake. Even so…

But yeah, we feel you when you say you’re ‘just another pitstop’ till she made up her mind about Justin Bieber.

In any case, let her go and move on. She won’t ‘call out’ your ‘name’. Don’t remember the Wasted Times.

Just saying…
