REVIEW: The re-created ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ is a classic made contemporary and cool

There’s a reason we’re in love with the title song of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Yes, despite it technically being a re-creation of the RD Burman original sung by Kumar Sanu and penned by Javed Akhtar. And we’ll tell you why….
Right from the breezy opening lines in Punjabi, to the first few lilting verses, it might as well be a different song. Then there’s a hint of familiarity with the hook. It’s followed by a return to the Punjabi verses set to the signature tune you heard as an instrumental in the original.
Gurpreet Saini’s lyrics are apt and betray a sense of impending longing (a fear you deeply feel when you fall hard for someone special). Rochak’s composition structurally revamps a classic, making it at once contemporary and cool.
Then there’s Darshan Raval’s rich, sonorous baritone settling in after starting out a little subdued. It’s a remarkable range to cover in the span of one song and the young sensation nails it!
Coming to the music video itself, most of the “conversations” between Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao are through silences and through various scenes, a budding love is established.
As it barrels headlong towards the end, there is a slight urgency about what comes next. You’re intrigued, for sure.
All very nicely packaged. We’re sold!>
