‘Somebody’ is poetry in motion

The Chainsmokers ft. Drew Love video is a sight to behold for lovers of art and pop culture junkies

The new-direction The Chainsmokers has seen them go down a dark path, with relevant lyrics and slightly out-of-context videos.

Their latest track, Somebody (ft Drew Love of THEY.) doesn’t stray too far from that MO.

The music video of ‘Somebody’ explores what it’s like living in a world where everyone else loses their true identities in materialistic wants.

Molly Crabapple, the artist who painted the art you see in timelapse, displays every emotion from confusion, madness, hatred, love, lust, and whatnot. She is is an artist and writer from New York. She is a contributing editor for VICEand has written for The New York TimesThe Paris ReviewVanity FairThe GuardianCNN and Newsweek. Her published books include her illustrated memoir Drawing Blood, Discordia, Devil in the Details and Week in Hell. Her works are held in the permanent collections of the MoMA The Museum of Modern Art, the Barjeel Art Foundation and the New-York Historical Society.

Given the run of perfectly kooky and emotionally vacant videos they’ve put out so far, this “story of temptation throughout time” is drawn so perfectly well and executed so beautiful in concept, we can’t stop watching it over and over again.
If we had to bring math in, it’s 40 per cent TCS, 40 percent Drew Love and 20 percent Molly Crabapple that does it for us.

Drew Love might be one half of THEY. but with this song as a featuring artist, he sure gets his breakthrough in a mainstream video. Things can only get better for him from here.
