The third Kabir Singh single is melodiously melancholic

  • Mere Sohneya is the third single to release from the Kabir Singh soundtrack.
  • It is the second Sachet-Parampara track from the OST and the first to feature the composer duo on singing duty.

Lyricist Irshad Kamil keeps the lyrics accessible though completely Punjabi. Starting off to ominous strains of a guitar and Sachet Tandon’s voice, the story of love, longing and the distances and obstacles one will overcome to get to one’s beloved is what the song is about. Parampara Thakur has a rather limited role to play vocally.

One would like to see more of the shehnai part being played, though

Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s characters have been separated for a while by the time the events in this video play out and that much is visible in the video. You can see the yearning for each other appear quite evocatively, but it’s almost like you don’t need the supporting cast here. They’re just part of the scenery.

While not as sticky as Bekhayali, Mere Sohneya has its charms if you’re into Punjabi lyrics. Otherwise, you’ll miss the point of the passion.
