Why Bhushan Kumar isn’t surprised about this Spotify record
By Bryan Durham - June 24, 2019
By now, you know that Bekhayali is on top of the Global Viral 50 chart on Spotify, but are you aware that in the past week (June 14-20), in India, the top 10 most streamed songs had six songs that were Indian?
Five were Bollywood tracks, one was a non-film track. Of the remaining, there was Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road, Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, Post Malone’s Sunflower and BTS’s Dream Glow.
That effectively meant that T-Series had four tracks (both of Kabir Singh‘s Bekhayali versions, Luka Chuppi’s Duniyaaa and Dhvani Bhanushali’s Vaaste) on the list and Zee Music Company had one (Kesari’s Ve Maahi).
We reached out to T-Series’s Bhushan Kumar for a comment on this development. He said, “With five of T-Series songs on Spotify India’s most streamed songs, shows us we are striking the chord with our audiences and our music industry is doing fantastic work. Kabir Singh’s songs have a newness to it that has made them most sought-after tracks, Duniyaa from Luka Chuppi is a different melody and Vaaste is a young, soulful track. These songs have an audience-base worldwide.”
Safe to say the man isn’t surprised at all.>
